Apple Search Ads connection guide

Follow these steps to connect your Apple Search Ads data to Supermetrics and use your data in any of our data destinations — Google Sheets, Looker Studio, Excel, data warehouses, and Power BI, as well as the Supermetrics API. You can also connect to data sources from the Supermetrics Hub.


You can share your data source connection with your team and use the connection across all data destinations you use with Supermetrics. Learn more about shared connections.


Before you begin

There are two ways to connect Supermetrics to Apple Search Ads.

Only Advanced account types are supported.


Instructions

Connect using OAuth

Your account needs the Account Read Only and Account Admin user roles to connect. Learn more about user roles in Apple's documentation.


Google Sheets

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open a new Google Sheets file.
  2. Navigate to ExtensionsSupermetricsLaunch to open the Supermetrics sidebar.
  3. Click Create query.
  4. Under Data source, select Apple Search Ads.
  5. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  6. Click Connect with OAuth.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  9. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.

Looker Studio
  1. Open the Supermetrics Looker Studio data source gallery.
  2. Navigate to Apple Search Ads and click Start free trial.
  3. You'll see two buttons that read Authorize. If you're using Supermetrics for the first time, click the left-hand one and log in with the Google Account you use with Supermetrics.
  4. Once that's done, or if you've done it before, click the right-hand Authorize button (under "Apple Search Ads requires authorization to connect to data").
  5. Select a team that has access to the account you want to connect.
  6. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  7. Click Connect with OAuth.
  8. Click Start.
  9. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  10. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.
  11. Select the accounts you'd like to use in your reporting.
  12. In the pane's top right, click Connect.
  13. Click Create report.
  14. Click Add to report.

Excel

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open an Excel file.
  2. Click DataShow Supermetrics.
  3. Under Data source, select Apple Search Ads.
  4. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  5. Click Connect with OAuth.
  6. Click Start.
  7. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  8. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.

Data warehouse

Follow these instructions to set up a transfer with Supermetrics for BigQuery (marketplace). See the instructions below for other data warehouse destinations.


Set up transfer for BigQuery (marketplace)

Make sure you've enrolled the data source before you connect.

  1. Log in to the Google Cloud Platform.
  2. Navigate to BigQueryData transfers.
  3. Click + Create transfer.
  4. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  5. Fill in the transfer details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a transfer.
  6. Under Third-party connection, click Connect source.
  7. Accept the agreement.
  8. Click Authorize with Apple Search Ads.
  9. Click Connect with OAuth.
  10. Click Start.
  11. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  12. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.
  13. Select the accounts you'd like to include in your reporting and define the transfer settings.
  14. Click Submit.
  15. Click Save.


Set up data warehouse transfer on the Supermetrics Hub

Make sure you've set up a data warehouse destination before you connect.

  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, go to StorageTransfers.
  3. Click New transfer. If you haven't created any transfers yet, click Schedule first transfer

  4. Select the Apple Search Ads data source, and click OK.
  5. Fill in the transfer details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a transfer.
  6. In the Connections section, click Add new connection.
  7. Click Connect with OAuth.
  8. Click Start.
  9. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  10. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.
  11. In the transfer setup view, select the accounts you'd like to include in your reporting.
  12. Click Create transfer.
Power BI
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, go to DestinationsPower BI.
  3. Click Create or edit queries.

  4. Click Select a data source.

  5. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  6. Click Connect with OAuth.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  9. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.
  10. Fill in the query details.
  11. Click Run query to test your query.
The Supermetrics API
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, click API.
  3. Select for Supermetrics API from the dropdown menu next to the page title.
  4. Click Select data source.
  5. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  6. Click Connect with OAuth.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  9. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.
  10. Fill in the query details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a Supermetrics API query in Query Manager.
  11. Click Run to test your query.
Supermetrics Hub
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, click Data sources.
  3. Scroll down to the list of data sources you haven't connected to. You see this list below your existing connections, under the title Connect to new data source.
  4. Hover over the Apple Search Ads data source, and click Connect.
  5. Click Connect with OAuth.
  6. Click Start.
  7. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
  8. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click Grant Access.


Connect using API username and secret key

If you're connecting with an API username and secret key, follow the steps below to get the credentials you need to connect.


Your account needs the API Account Manager or API Account Read Only user role to connect. Learn more about user roles in Apple's documentation.


Step 1: Download a public key certificate

  1. Open Supermetrics in your report. Click Data source, and then Apple Search Ads. If you're using Looker Studio, click Authorize when prompted.
  2. A dialog should open. Scroll down and click Click here to download your public key certificate.
  3. Once your download's complete, find the file in your "Downloads" folder (it'll be a .pem file).
  4. Right-click on the .pem file. Click Open with, and select a text editor (like Notepad on Windows, or TextEdit on Mac). Leave the file open while you follow the steps below.


Step 2: Generate API client

  1. Log in to Apple Search Ads with your API user account.
  2. Click on your username on the top right, and navigate to Settings.
  3. Copy the whole text from the public key certificate file you downloaded earlier and paste it into the Public key field. The file should include both BEGIN PUBLIC KEY and END PUBLIC KEY.
  4. Click Generate API client.
  5. This will generate the Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID. Click Save to save those credentials.
  6. Return to the Supermetrics login dialog.
  7. Copy the Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID, and paste them into the fields with those labels.


Google Sheets

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open a new Google Sheets file.
  2. Navigate to ExtensionsSupermetricsLaunch to open the Supermetrics sidebar.
  3. Click Create query.
  4. Under Data source, select Apple Search Ads.
  5. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  6. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  7. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  8. Click Start.

Looker Studio
  1. Open the Supermetrics Looker Studio data source gallery.
  2. Navigate to Apple Search Ads and click Start free trial.

Follow these instructions to set up a transfer with Supermetrics for BigQuery (marketplace). See the instructions below for other data warehouse destinations.


Set up transfer for BigQuery (marketplace)

Make sure you've enrolled the data source before you connect.

  1. Log in to the Google Cloud Platform.
  2. Navigate to BigQueryData transfers.
  3. Click + Create transfer.
  4. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  5. Fill in the transfer details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a transfer.
  6. Under Third-party connection, click Connect source.
  7. Accept the agreement.
  8. Click Authorize with Apple Search Ads.
  9. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  10. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  11. Click Start.
  12. Select the accounts you'd like to include in your reporting and define the transfer settings.
  13. Click Submit.
  14. Click Save.


Set up data warehouse transfer on the Supermetrics Hub

Make sure you've set up a data warehouse destination before you connect.

  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, go to StorageTransfers.
  3. Click New transfer. If you haven't created any transfers yet, click Schedule first transfer
  4. Select the Apple Search Ads data source, and click OK.
  5. Fill in the transfer details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a transfer.
  6. In the Connections section, click Add new connection.
  7. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  8. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  9. Click Start.
  10. In the transfer setup view, select the accounts you'd like to include in your reporting.
  11. Click Create transfer.
Power BI
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, go to DestinationsPower BI.
  3. Click Create or edit queries.
  4. Click Select a data source.
  5. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  6. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  7. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  8. Click Start.
  9. Fill in the query details.
  10. Click Run query to test your query.
The Supermetrics API
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, click API.
  3. Select for Supermetrics API from the dropdown menu next to the page title.
  4. Click Select data source.
  5. Select the Apple Search Ads data source.
  6. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  7. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  8. Click Start.
  9. Fill in the query details. See detailed instructions on how to set up a Supermetrics API query in Query Manager.
  10. Click Run to test your query.
Supermetrics Hub
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, click Data sources.
  3. Scroll down to the list of data sources you haven't connected to. You see this list below your existing connections, under the title Connect to new data source.
  4. Hover over the Apple Search Ads data source, and click Connect.
  5. Click Connect with API username and secret key.
  6. Enter your Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
  7. Click Start.
