How to get pure organic data from TikTok Organic

The TikTok Organic data source connector has a known issue that if an organic post becomes a Spark ad, then this connector returns both organic and paid data.

To get pure organic data, you can use a workaround with custom fields and data blending.

Before you begin

For this workaround, you need access to both TikTok Ads and TikTok Organic.

You also need custom fields and data blending as part of your Supermetrics license. Please contact our sales team about a Marketing Intelligence Cloud license.

Instructions

Step 1: Create a new join blend using TikTok Ads and TikTok Organic

  1. On the Supermetrics Hub, go to TransformData blending.
  2. Select the TikTok Ads connector and the account to use.
  3. Select the Post ID dimension and Video views metric.
  4. Select the TikTok Organic connector and the account to use.
  5. Select the Video performance query type and the Video ID dimension and the Video views metric.
  6. Hover over the Video views field name and click the pencil icon to change the display names of the fields so that the Video views for TikTok Ads is renamed to Video views (ads) and the field for TikTok Organic is renamed Video views (organic).
  7. Click Next step.
  8. Select the Post ID and Video ID dimensions as the join keys, and select the Inner join option. Once done, click Next step.
  9. Give your blend a name, and an optional description.
  10. Click Create blend.

Step 2: Create a custom field using the blended data source

In this step, create a custom field that subtracts Video views from TikTok Ads from Video views from TikTok Organic.

  1. On the Supermetrics Hub, go to TransformCustom fields.
  2. Click New custom field.
  3. Select metric and click Next.
  4. Select the Data blending data source and the blend you just created, and click Next
  5. Select Function as your transformation type.
  6. Select the Subtract function.
  7. In the Value of field, select Video views (organic).
  8. In the minus field, select Video views (ads), and click Next.
  9. Give a name for your custom field, and click Create custom field.

Step 3: Use your custom field in your queries

  1. In your data destination, select the Data blending data source.
  2. Select the blend you just created.
  3. As metrics, select the custom field you created, as well as the Video views (ads) and Video views (organic) metrics.
  4. Select the Post ID dimension.
  5. Run your query.
