Pinterest Organic report building guide

Use the Pinterest Organic data source connector to pull your Pinterest data, such as profile metrics, engagement metrics, and Pin details. You can also look at this data together with your Pinterest Ads data to see the long-term effects of your campaigns.

Once you've connected to Pinterest Organic, you're ready to create your first query in Google Sheets, Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio), or Excel.


Query types for this data source

When connecting to the Pinterest Organic data source, you need to select a query type. The query type defines what sort of metrics and dimensions are available.

When connecting to the Pinterest Organic data source, you must select a query type to use. The query type defines what sort of metrics and dimensions are available. 

  • Profile: Get aggregated organic metrics of all pins and lifetime metrics of the profile. This report contains analytics from your owned pins (created and saved by you), as well as pins created and saved by others from your claimed accounts, such as websites.
  • Top pins: Get organic metrics for the top 50 pins. This report contains analytics from your owned pins (created and saved by you), as well as pins created and saved by others from your claimed accounts, such as websites.
  • Owned pins: Get organic metrics for your owned pins (created and saved by you) with daily breakdowns. This query type isn't available in Looker Studio.

See impressions, engagements, outbound clicks, clicks, and saves

Take a look at various types of user actions your Pins have received.


Use the "Profile" query type.


The "Impressions" metric shows the number of times your Pins were on screen.

The "Engagements" metric shows the total number of engagements on your Pins. This includes saves, Pin clicks, outbound clicks, carousel card swipes, secondary creative (collections) clicks, and Idea Pin forward/backward swipes.

The "Outbound clicks" metric shows the number of times people perform actions that lead them to a destination off Pinterest.

The "Pin clicks" metric shows the total number of clicks on your Pin so it opens in closeup.

The "Saves" metric shows the number of times people saved your Pin to a board.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the table or time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to This month to date.
  2. Select the Impressions, Engagements, Outbound clicks, Pin clicks, and Saves metrics.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.


See top Pin actions

Take a look at how your audience has interacted with your top Pins in the past 28 days. 


Use the "Top pins" query type.


The "Engagements" metric shows the number of engagements on a Pin, including closeups, saves, and outbound clicks. 

The "Impressions" metric shows the number of times your Pins were on screen. 

The "Saves" metric shows the number of times people saved your Pin to a board. 

The "Outbound clicks" metric shows the number of times people perform actions that lead them to a destination off Pinterest.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last 28 days.
  2. Select the Engagements, Impressions, Saves, and Outbound clicks metrics.
  3. Select the Created at date and Pin title dimension to split the query results by date.


See owned Pin analytics

View data on your owned pins, including the Pins you've created and the Pins you've saved. In this example, we take a look at the data for the past 28 days.


Use the "Owned pins" query type. Note that the "Owned pins" query type is not available in Looker Studio.


The "Impressions" metric shows the number of times your Pins were on screen.

The "Pin clicks" metric shows the total number of clicks on your Pin so it opens in closeup.

The "Outbound clicks" metric shows the number of times people perform actions that lead them to a destination off Pinterest.

The "Saves" metric shows the number of times people saved your Pin to a board.

  1. Set the date range to Last 28 days.
  2. Select the Impressions, Pin clicks, Outbound clicks, and Saves metrics.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.


See lifetime metrics for profile

View the profile lifetime metrics and get data on the followers and accounts following you. These are lifetime metrics, meaning that the metric shows the current value, and you can't make a comparison to a previous time period.


Use the "Profile" query type. 


The "Followers" metric shows the number of followers. The "Following" metric shows the number of accounts following. The "Pins" metric shows the number of Pins owned.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Today.
  2. Select the Followers, Following, and Pins metrics.
  3. Select the Ad account name dimension to split the query results by ad account name.


Set up scheduled refreshes for your reports

You can set up scheduled refreshes for your reports created in Google Sheets and Excel. Follow the instructions on how to create and manage scheduled reports in Google Sheets and how to set up scheduled report triggers in Excel.


In Looker Studio, you can have a copy of your report emailed to you and important stakeholders at regular intervals.
