Mixpanel connection guide

Follow these steps to connect your Mixpanel data to Supermetrics and use your data in Google Sheets, Looker Studio, and Excel. You can also connect to data sources from the Supermetrics Hub.


You can share your data source connection with your team and use the connection across all data destinations you use with Supermetrics. Learn more about shared connections.


Before you begin

A Mixpanel service account is required to query the data. You can create a service account in your Mixpanel Organization settings. Learn more about service accounts in Mixpanel's documentation.


Check which Data Residency your project is set up with. You can find this information under Settings → Project setting when you log in to Mixpanel.


Query types

  • Events: Get event data to track interactions between a user and your product.


Instructions

Google Sheets

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open a new Google Sheets file.
  2. Navigate to ExtensionsSupermetricsLaunch sidebar to open Supermetrics.
  3. Click Create new query.
  4. Under Data source, select Mixpanel.
  5. Enter your Mixpanel service account name and secret.
  6. Give your login a name. The name can be anything — its purpose is to recognize the login later in case you have multiple logins.
  7. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  8. Click Start.
  9. Navigate to Report configuration, and select a query type and data residency to use in your report.

Looker Studio
  1. Open the Supermetrics Looker Studio data source gallery.
  2. Navigate to Mixpanel and click Start free trial.
  3. You'll see two buttons that read Authorize. If you're using Supermetrics for the first time, click the left-hand one and log in with the Google Account you use with Supermetrics.
  4. Once that's done, or if you've done it before, click the right-hand Authorize button (under "Mixpanel requires authorization to connect to data").
  5. Select a team that has access to the account you want to connect.
  6. Enter your Mixpanel service account name and secret.
  7. Give your login a name. The name can be anything — its purpose is to recognize the login later in case you have multiple logins.
  8. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  9. Click Start.
  10. Click Done.
  11. Select the project to use in your report and a query type.
  12. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. To create a report with our template, select Use report template for new reports. To create a blank report, deselect this option.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select the data residency to use in your report.
  15. In the pane's top right, click Connect.
  16. Click Create report.
  17. Click Add to report.

Excel

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open an Excel file.
  2. Click DataShow Supermetrics.
  3. Under Data source, select Mixpanel.
  4. Enter your Mixpanel service account name and secret.
  5. Give your login a name. The name can be anything — its purpose is to recognize the login later in case you have multiple logins.
  6. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Navigate to Report configuration, and select a query type and data residency to use in your report.

Supermetrics Hub
  1. Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
  2. In the sidebar, click Data sources.
  3. Scroll down to the list of data sources you haven't connected to. You see this list below your existing connections, under the title Connect to new data source.
  4. Hover over the Mixpanel data source, and click Connect.
  5. Enter your Mixpanel service account name and secret.
  6. Give your login a name. The name can be anything — its purpose is to recognize the login later in case you have multiple logins.
  7. Click Start.
