Facebook Insights report building guide

Use the Facebook Insights data source to see what content catches your audience's eye. Get a detailed view of your social media presence and your audience, and focus your efforts on what matters.

Once you've connected to Facebook Insights, you're ready to create your first queries!

See the following use cases for examples on how to set up queries.


See number of Page followers

Explore the number of followers for your Page compared to the same time last year.


The "Page followers" metric shows the number of people who follow your Page.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the scorecard chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Today.
  2. Select the Page followers metric. 
  3. Set the Comparison date range to Previous year.


See Page likes per geographical location

Explore the total number of people who’ve liked your Page in different countries this year.


The "Total likes" metric shows the total number of people who’ve liked your Page.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the geo chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Year to date.
  2. Select the Total likes metric.
  3. Select the Country dimension to split the results by geographical location.


See Page reach per age and gender

Take a look at the demographics of people who your Page has reached. In this example, we fetch the data for the last 28 days.


The "Total reach" metric shows the number of unique users who saw any of your Facebook Page posts. Learn more about total reach and unique metrics on Facebook Insights.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the pie or table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last 28 days.
  2. Select the Total reach metric.
  3. Select the Gender & age dimension to split the query results by gender and age.


See total reach and total impressions of your posts

Check the number of people who’ve seen any of your content, and the number of times your content has been seen in total. In this example, we view this data for the previous month.


The "Total reach" metric shows the number of unique users who saw any of your Facebook Page posts. Learn more about total reach and unique metrics on Facebook Insights.

The "Total Impressions" metric shows the number of times your content was seen by anyone on Facebook.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last month.
  2. Select the Total reach and Total impressions metrics. 
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date. 


See Page post engagements

See how many times people have reacted or commented on your posts, and shared your content, last week. 


The "Post engagement rate" metric shows the percent of reached people who engaged with your post. This metric is calculated with Post engaged users/Post reach.

The "Post engaged users" metric shows the number of people who clicked anywhere in your posts. 


For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last week
  2. Select the Post engagement rate and Post engaged users metrics. 
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by post creation date. 


See total impressions per post

Check how many people have seen your posts in the last 28 days. 


For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last 28 days
  2. Select the Total impressions metric. 
  3. Select the Post name dimension to split the query results by post name.
