How to use Supermetrics report templates in Power BI

Supermetrics offers free report templates for Power BI. Visit our template gallery to explore the full collection.

Take a look at these instructions for launching the Supermetrics connector in Power BI.

Note

Make sure you have the 2.128.751.0 (April 2024 update) or any later release of Power BI Desktop installed to your computer to use the Supermetrics connector.

Instructions

Connect to a data source

If you are a new Supermetrics user, you need to connect to a data source first. If you’re already connected with Supermetrics and have connected the data source, you can go straight into downloading a Power BI template.

  1. On the Power BI page on the Supermetrics Hub, click Create a new query.
  2. Select the data sources needed for the template and follow the authentication flow to connect to the data source. See our data source connection guides for data source-specific details.

Note

There's no need to continue with building a query, as all queries needed are provided in the template.

The Supermetrics template includes all preset queries used in the template. These queries are listed under the Standard folder of the connected data source.

Download and open the template file

  1. Go to the Supermetrics template gallery.
  2. Download the Power BI template you want to use to your computer. If you're using the connector for the first time, you're prompted to sign in to your Supermetrics account.
  3. In Power BI Desktop, go to FileImport, and select Power BI template.
  4. Select the template you downloaded and sign in to Supermetrics.
  5. The data will start to populate automatically.

Change accounts used with template

Supermetrics will use your data source connection and the first account or property on the list (sorted by alphabetical order). If the first account or property on the list does not have data, the template will show errors. Follow the instructions below on how to change the account selection in Power BI.

To change the account used by the template, follow these steps:

  1. In Power BI Desktop, open the Query Editor by clicking Transform data.
  2. For each table that includes the Invoked Function step, modify the query settings:
  3. In the Applied steps window on the right, click the cogwheel icon next to Invoked Function.

There might be steps after the Invoked Function. You can ignore them, but make sure not to delete any steps. Only change the settings for this one step.
  4. Change the account or property in the pop-up window. Click OK to save the changes.
  5. Repeat these steps for each table that has the Invoked Function step. If the table doesn't have the Invoked Function step, the table is derived from another table and no action is required. The updated settings will automatically apply to these tables too.
