How to connect data sources to Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio)

The first step in moving your data in Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) with Supermetrics is to connect to our platform.

Some data sources have different requirements. Explore our connection guides for specific guidance on connecting to each data source.

This guide will show you the process for one of our most popular data sources: Facebook Ads.

  1. Open the Supermetrics Looker Studio data source gallery.
  2. Navigate to Facebook Ads and click Start free trial.
  3. You'll see two buttons that read Authorize. If you're using Supermetrics for the first time in Looker Studio, click the left-hand one and log in with the Google Account you use with Supermetrics.
  4. Once that's done, or if you've done it before, click the right-hand Authorize button (under "Facebook Ads requires authorization to connect to data").
  5. Select a team that has access to the account you want to connect.
  6. Choose to make this connection shared or private.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Either log in with a new Facebook account, or click Continue as to go ahead with the account you're already logged in to.
  9. Select the Businesses and Pages you want to include in your reporting.
  10. Review the permissions, and click Save.
  11. Click Got it and click Done.
  12. Click Complete and continue.
  13. Click Close this window to return to Looker Studio.
  14. Select the accounts you'd like to include in your reporting.
  15. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. To create a report with our template, select Use report template for new reports. To create a blank report, deselect this option.
  16. In the pane's top right, click Connect.
  17. Click Create report.
  18. Click Create report again.

If you run into trouble logging in or authenticating, it could be due to one of these issues. If the error's coming from Looker Studio itself, Google's comprehensive troubleshooting tips could help.

Account issues

If you or your organization uses multiple accounts to access either Looker Studio or your data sources, cookies and permissions can cause issues when logging in.

If Looker Studio automatically logs you in with the wrong account, clear your cookies before connecting to Supermetrics. This should help ensure that you’re logged in with the right account.

If you get stuck in a loop with failed authentication, follow these instructions to diagnose and solve the problem.

Multiple accounts or logins

If you encounter an error message telling you that This action is not supported when you are signed in to multiple accounts, follow these instructions to solve the issue.
