How to Authenticate/Re-authenticate Apple App Store / iTunes in Google Sheets, Google Data Studio & Microsoft Excel

This guide gives instructions on how to authenticate Apple App Store Ads with Google Sheets, Google Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel.

"If everything fails..." 


Data Source Access Requirements:

The Supermetrics Apple App Store / iTunes connector does not require logging into a specific account. Therefore, no access requirements are required for this data source.

Authenticating with Google Sheets: 

This guide assumes that you have already installed the Supermetrics add-on for Google Sheets. If you haven't installed the add-on yet, see First steps: Getting the Supermetrics Sidebar in Google Sheets.


To authenticate Apple App Store / iTunes in Google Sheets, please do the following steps:

1. Open up the Supermetrics sidebar in your Google Sheets. 


2. Select App Store / iTunes under add data sources


3. Select query type


4. Insert the keyword(s) or app ID(s) for searching apps. To select different apps, separate each keyword/ID with commas.


5. Select App Store country.


6. Select the platform (iPhone, Mac etc.) and number of maximum results for search term.


You have completed all the authentication steps. 


Re-authenticating with Google Sheets:

To re-authenticate the data source in Google Sheets, please go to this guide.


Authenticating with Data Studio:

To authenticate Apple App Store / iTunes in Google Data Studio, please do the following steps.

1. Since the data source is in early access, please use this link to authenticate the data source. 

2. Click on Authorize. If you wish to learn more about data security and data privacy, please see this page.



3. Select query type and click on next



4. Insert the keyword(s) or app ID(s) for searching apps. To select different apps, separate each keyword/ID with commas.



5. Select App Store country.

6. Select the platform (iPhone, Mac etc.) and number of maximum results for search term.




7. Click on connect on the top right side to continue. 

8. By default, there will be a list of fields. You can skip this list and click on create report.

9. As a final step, click on add to report

Re-authenticating with Data Studio:

Authenticating with Excel:

This guide assumes that you have already installed the Supermetrics add-on for Excel. If you haven't installed the add-on yet, see First steps: Getting the Supermetrics Sidebar into Excel.


To authenticate Apple App Store / iTunes in Excel, please do the following steps:

1. Click on data and open up the Supermetrics sidebar in Excel.


2. Select Apple App Store / iTunes in the sidebar under add data source.


3. Click on start to proceed.



4. Select query type


5. Insert the keyword(s) or app ID(s) for searching apps. To select different apps, separate each keyword/ID with commas.

6. Select App Store country.

7. Select the platform (iPhone, Mac etc.) and number of maximum results for search term.


Re-authenticating with Excel:

Common errors:

If you encounter any of the following errors below, please see the guide linked after the error message.

  • Error: "Authentication failed" & "You need to re-authenticate at X and then run the query again.", please see this guide
  • Error: "This was a reauthorization request for user X but logged in as user Y", please see this guide
  • Error: "You're not allowed to run queries with this license #12345. This is because you have not been assigned to the license as a valid user." please see this guide.
  • Error: "This action is not supported when you are signed into multiple accounts". please see this guide.
  • If you no longer see a specific account/page/etc. when logging in, please see this guide
  • If you haven't managed to authenticate you might be affected by an issue at Google account management. For more information, please see this guide.
