How to Authenticate/Re-authenticate Vimeo Public Data in Google Sheets, Google Data Studio & Microsoft Excel

This guide gives instructions on how to authenticate Vimeo Public Data with Google Sheets, Google Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel.

"If everything fails..." 

Data Source Access Requirements:

Vimeo Public Data allows you to collect publicly available data about Vimeo's videos and users and does not require to log in to a specific account. Thus, no access requirements are required for this data source


Authenticating with Google Sheets

To authenticate Vimeo Public Data in Google Sheets, please do the following steps:

1. Open up the Supermetrics sidebar in your Google Sheets.

2. Select Vimeo Public Data in the sidebar, under data source.

3. Select query type.

  • User data gets the account metadata from a username keyword search.
  • Video data gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a keyword search.
  • Video uploads gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a specific user account.

4. Depending on the query type you choose, insert keyword/s or username/s. To select multiple keywords/usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines. 


5. Select data by type (relevance, date, alphabetical, followers, videos).


As additional filters, you can:

- Translate data into one specific language.

- Choose the number of rows per item.


You have completed all the authentication steps. 


Re-authenticating with Google Sheets:

Authenticating with Data Studio:

To authenticate Vimeo Public Data in Google Data Studio, please do the following steps:

1. Click on add data.

2. Search for Vimeo Public Data by Supermetrics and click on it.

3. Select query type and click on next.

  • User data gets the account metadata from a username keyword search.
  • Video data gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a keyword search.
  • Video uploads gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a specific user account.


4.  Depending on the query type you choose, insert keyword/s or username/s. To select multiple keywords/usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines. 


5. Select data by type (relevance, date, alphabetical, followers, videos).

As an additional filter, you can:

- Translate data into one specific language.


6. Click on add on the bottom right side to continue. 

7. As a final step, click on add to report.

Re-authenticating with Data Studio:

To authenticate Vimeo Public Data in Excel, please do the following steps:

1. Click on data and open up the Supermetrics sidebar in Excel.

2. Select Vimeo Public Data in the sidebar under data source.

3. An automatic popup will open up, click on start.

4. Select query type.

  • User data gets the account metadata from a username keyword search.
  • Video data gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a keyword search.
  • Video uploads gets the metadata and basic metrics of videos from a specific user account.

5. Depending on the query type you choose, insert keyword/s or username/s. To select multiple keywords/usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines. 


6. Select data by type (relevance, date, alphabetical, followers, videos). You have completed all the authentication steps.

Common errors:

  • Error: "Authentication failed" & "You need to re-authenticate at X and then run the query again.", please see this guide
  • Error: "You're not allowed to run queries with this license #12345. This is because you have not been assigned to the license as a valid user." please see this guide.
