YouTube: Authentication guide

This guide gives instructions on how to authenticate YouTube with Google Sheets, Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel. 


Before you begin

To connect Supermetrics to a YouTube brand account, you need Content manager access. Learn how to find out which type of account you're using in Google's documentation.


For all types of accounts and channels, the account logging in needs to be the channel's owner. 


Instructions

Before you can authenticate the data source in Google Sheets, you need to install the Supermetrics add-on.
  1. Open a new Google Sheets file. 
  2. Navigate to ExtensionsSupermetricsLaunch to open the Supermetrics sidebar.
  3. Under Data source, select YouTube.
  4. Click Start.
  5. Log in with a Google Account.
  6. Click Allow
  7. Select accounts or channels to include in your reporting.

Troubleshooting

If an account is missing from your available accounts in Supermetrics (including channels and videos), follow these steps:

  1. Create a new Google Account.
  2. Log into YouTube Creator Studio with your original Google Account.
  3. Navigate to Settings and then Permissions in the left-side menu.
  4. Click Invite in the top right.
  5. Add the new Google Account as the new user.
  6. Create the new user as a Manager (if you're using a brand channel, Owner would also work)Click Invite.
  7. Open the invitation email while logged in as the new user. Click Visit the sign-up page to accept the invitation.
  8. Select Use existing Google Account.
  9. Go back to the Supermetrics sidebar, and click add a new user.

  • If you encounter a permission error such as “user permission denied” or similar, follow this guide.
