This guide gives instructions on how to authenticate YouTube with Google Sheets, Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel.
Before you begin
To connect Supermetrics to a YouTube brand account, you need Content manager access. Learn how to find out which type of account you're using in Google's documentation.
For all types of accounts and channels, the account logging in needs to be the channel's owner.
Instructions
- Open a new Google Sheets file.
- Navigate to Extensions → Supermetrics → Launch to open the Supermetrics sidebar.
- Under Data source, select YouTube.
- Click Start.
- Log in with a Google Account.
- Click Allow.
- Select accounts or channels to include in your reporting.
- Open the Supermetrics data source gallery
- Navigate to YouTube and click Try.
- Click Authorize to authorize.
- If you're authenticating the data source for the first time, log in with the Google Account you use with Supermetrics. Click Allow.
- Click Authorize.
- Log in with a Google Account.
- Click Allow.
- Select accounts or channels to include in your reporting.
- To create a report with our template, select Use report template for new reports. To create a blank report, deselect this option.
- Click Connect on the top right-hand side.
- Click Create report.
- Click Add to report.
Connections
If you use Excel and no other Supermetrics products, you’ll be able to connect accounts to data sources and share these connections with your team. You can manage connections either within the add-in sidebar or via the Supermetrics Team Site. Learn more about shared connections.
Before you can authenticate Semrush Analytics in Excel, you need to install the Supermetrics add-in.
- Open an Excel file.
- Click Data → Show Supermetrics
- Under Data source, select YouTube.
- Choose to make this connection shared or private.
- Click Start.
- Log in with a Google Account.
- Click Allow.
- Select channels and videos to include in your reporting.

Troubleshooting
If an account is missing from your available accounts in Supermetrics (including channels and videos), follow these steps:
- Create a new Google Account.
- Log into YouTube Creator Studio with your original Google Account.
- Navigate to Settings and then Permissions in the left-side menu.
- Click Invite in the top right.
- Add the new Google Account as the new user.
- Create the new user as a Manager (if you're using a brand channel, Owner would also work). Click Invite.
- Open the invitation email while logged in as the new user. Click Visit the sign-up page to accept the invitation.
- Select Use existing Google Account.
- Go back to the Supermetrics sidebar, and click add a new user.
