How to Authenticate/Re-authenticate Facebook Public Data in Google Sheets, Google Data Studio & Microsoft Excel

This guide gives instructions on how to successfully authenticate Facebook Public Data.

"If everything fails..." 

Data Source Access Requirements:

The Facebook Public Data connector does not work in the same way as the other Facebook connectors, as you don't need to log in. Therefore, no special access requirements are required for this data source. It allows you to collect publicly available data about page and page posts.


Authenticating with Google Sheets:

If you are authenticating Facebook Public Data in Google Sheets for the first time, please do the following steps:

1. Open up the Supermetrics sidebar in your Google Sheets.

2. Select Facebook Public Data in the sidebar, under data source

3. An automatic Facebook Public Data login page will open up, please click on continue with Facebook.

4. Click on continue as X if you wish to login with that specific account. If you want to access by using another account, click on log into another account

5. You have completed all the steps. You can now go back to the sidebar and select your Facebook Public Data account. 


Re-Authenticating with Google Sheets:

Authenticating with Data Studio:

To authenticate Facebook Public Data in Google Data Studio, please do the following steps:

1. Click on create a new data source.

2. Search for Facebook Public Data by Supermetrics and click on Select when selecting it.

3. Click on Authorize. If you wish to learn more about data consent, please see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

4. Select the query type and click on next. 

5. Please select again the query type and click on connect. 


6. It will then take you to the field list. By default, you don't need to do anything else. Click on add to report to proceed. 

Re-Authenticating with Data Studio:

Authenticating with Excel:

To authenticate Facebook Public Data in Excel, please do the following steps:

1. Click on data and open up the Supermetrics sidebar in Excel.

2. Select Facebook Public Data in the sidebar, under data source.

3. An automatic popup with open, click on start.

4. You can now go back to the sidebar, select the query type, insert Facebook page aliases/IDs and click on get data

Common errors:

If you encounter any of the following errors below, please see the guide linked after the error message. 

  • Error: "You're not allowed to run queries with this license #12345. This is because you have not been assigned to the license as a valid user." please see this guide.
  • Error: "This action is not supported when you are signed into multiple accounts". please see this guide.
  • If you haven't managed to authenticate you might be affected by an issue at Google account management. For more information, please see this guide.
