Reddit Public Data report building guide

Use the Reddit Public Data data source connector to get data about posts, sub reddits, and account details. You can report the number of posts a specific keyword has generated over time and see the engagement on the posts where your keyword is used.

Once you’ve connected to Reddit Public Data, you're ready to create your first queries!


Query types for this data source

When connecting to the Reddit Public Data data source, you need to select a query type. The query type defines what sort of metrics and dimensions are available.

  • Reddit user data: Fetches the user metadata for an account.
  • Reddit subreddit data: Fetches a subreddit's metadata.
  • Reddit posts: Fetches post details for a keyword.

See upvotes for posts

Take a look at the upvotes for posts with a particular keyword. In this example, we take a look at the upvotes data for the previous month.


Use the "Reddit posts" query type.


The "Upvotes" metric shows the number of upvotes.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series chart type.

  1. Select the Reddit posts query type and specify the keyword to query.
  2. Set the date range to Last month.
  3. Select the Upvotes metric.
  4. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.


See comments and upvotes

Stay on top of the comments and upvotes for particular keywords. Here, we take a look at the comments and upvotes, and also include the date when the comment was posted, link to the comment, the subreddit the comment was posted in, and the title of the post.


Use the "Reddit posts" query type.


The "Comments" metric shows the number of comments.

The "Upvotes" metric shows the number of upvotes.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Select the Reddit posts query type and specify the keyword to query.
  2. Set the date range to Last week.
  3. Select the Comments and Upvotes metrics.
  4. Select the Date, Link to comments, Subreddit, and Title dimensions to split the query results by these details.


See posts per subreddit

Take a look at which subreddit the posts about your keyword are being posted into.


Use the "Reddit posts" query type.


The "Posts" metric shows the number of posts.


For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Select the Reddit posts query type and specify the keyword to query.
  2. Set the date range to Last week.
  3. Select the Posts metric.
  4. Select the Subreddit dimension to split the query results by subreddit name.


See post details

View the number of posts, upvotes, downvotes, gilded posts, number of comments, and view count for posts around the particular topic you're interested in. In this example, we take a look at the data by date for the ongoing month.


Use the "Reddit posts" query type.


The "Comments" metric shows the number of comments.

The "Upvotes" metric shows the number of upvotes.

The "Downvotes" metric shows the number of downvotes.

The "Posts" metric shows the number of posts.

The "Gilded" metric shows the number of gilded posts.

  2. Set the date range to This month to date.
  3. Select the Posts, Comments, Upvotes, Downvotes, Gilded, and Views metrics.
  4. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.
