How to add Performance Max campaign data to Google Ads queries

In late 2021, Google Ads introduced Performance Max campaigns for all users.

Performance Max campaign data is only available in the newer version of the Google Ads API. Supermetrics will gradually transfer all users to this API in . If you want to start reporting on Performance Max campaigns immediately, you need to enable a setting that instructs our platform to query the newer version of the Google Ads API.

Note that data for Performance Max campaigns is only available at the campaign level — queries at the ad group or ad level, for example, won't return any data.

Due to limitations in the new Google API, it isn't possible to pull Google Ads data from Search Ads 360 accounts when using this setting. Remove any Search Ads 360 accounts from your queries before enabling the new API.

Google Sheets

  1. Open the Supermetrics sidebar.
  2. Click the Options dropdown.
  3. Select Use new Google Ads API.

To enable the new API for existing queries, you can also add this new setting on the SupermetricsQueries sheet. This is hidden by default — navigate to Extensions → Supermetrics → Manage queries to open it.

On that sheet, add the "USE_NEW_GOOGLE_ADS_API" setting to column AF ("Special settings") for each query that you want to use the new API.

Google Data Studio

  1. Next to Google Ads in the top left, click Edit data source to open the settings pane.
  2. In the pane's top left, click Edit connection.
  3. Scroll down to Use new Google Ads API. Select it.
  4. In the top right, click Reconnect.

If you're using Google Ads with Supermetrics for the first time, you can also enable this setting in the settings pane when you're setting up the connection. Learn how to create your first Google Ads query with Supermetrics.

  2. Click the Options dropdown.
