Google Sheets: Google Search Console API Date Range

Hello,

Can Supermetrics For Google Sheets pull 16 months of data from the Search Console Search Analytics API?

Per this 18 Jun 2018 tweet from Google, this is now possible:

https://twitter.com/googlewmc/status/1008754160618082304

"If you're using the Search Console Search Analytics #API, you now have access to all 16 months of data provided in the UI!"

However, the Supermetrics For Google Sheets resources I am finding on the web are unclear to me on the subject.

E.g...

From this Supermetrics resource "What does the "Combine new results with old" setting do?":

https://support.supermetrics.com/support/solutions/articles/19000050062-what-does-the-combine-new-results-with-old-setting-do-

"Google Search Console only lets you fetch data on the last 90 days."

Another Supermetrics resource "How Do I Use the "Combine new results with old" Setting?"

https://support.supermetrics.com/support/solutions/articles/19000079135

"As noted in the article What does the "Combine new results with old" setting do?, this feature can be used to overcome shortcomings of the data source API not being able to pull older periods of historical data or to help quicken the loading or larger data sets"

Another Supermetrics resource "Discrepancies in Google Search Console results"

https://support.supermetrics.com/support/solutions/articles/19000098608-discrepancies-in-google-search-console-results

"- Technical differences between tools. We are using the Search Console API which processes data differently from the Search Console UI."

Thanks for any clarity you can provide.

  • Hi Paul,

Yes we can pull up to 16 months now.

  • Thanks for the clarity. What is the methodology used to calculate the appropriate date range? I have read that the GSC API permits a 486 day date range, but am still unclear how this factors into the Supermetrics UI.
  • Hi Paul,

You put the data range you want into the UI and we attempt to pull that data for that period by building the appropriate API request. If you request too far into the past, you will get an error and it won't run.

  • Hi Jessica,

I am adding to this thread because I am not observing the behavior you describe.

When I pull from GSC into Google Sheets using the date range:

    Start date: 2018-01-01

    End date: 2019-07-31

I don't get an error message. The Supermetrics plugin behaves as though the GSC API query was successful for those dates.

Per Date Calculator link below, 486 days prior to End date: 2019-07-31 is Start date: 2018-04-01

    https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?m1=7&d1=31&y1=2019&type=sub&ay=&am=&aw=&ad=486&rec=

Given that, and our previous discussion on this thread, I would expect the Supermetrics Google Sheets plugin to throw an error message for my dates - Start date: 2018-01-01 & End date: 2019-07-31.

I have created a support ticket #62539 with a video to demonstrate this behavior - I am not posting it here because the data is sensitive.

Can you please help clarify what's going on?

    Thanks.

  • For others that may see this thread in the future:

We found that the behavior is that it will only error if the entire date range is outside the 16 month window, otherwise it will fetch as much as it can from the dates that are within the 16 month window.
