SEMRush - How to Pull Position Tracking for Keywords

I'm having trouble pulling the keyword rankings for a project in semrush to data studio. I can't find the proper documentation to help set this up. Can someone please help with this?

  • Hi Catherine,

The beta SEMRush Projects connector is unfortunately critically flawed at the moment, it doesn't work correctly for most scenarios. We are currently overhauling the connector to fix these issues and will re-release it for beta testing again in the near future.

If you meant the other SEMRush Analytics connector - there's an example setup for that here for one way to get the keyword positions:

  • Hi Jessica,

Do you have an eta on the re-released version?

  • Hi Catherine,

The last release time we were told was Q1 - which has clearly come and gone. It's listed as 80% complete though - so maybe end of Q2 now? If you don't hear anything by end of June, check back with us.

  • Okay, thank you.

  • Hi there, I am looking for a follow up on this thanks!

  • Hi Catherine,

I checked in about this and it looks like the SEMRush Projects update is on hold a the moment. The dev who was going to do the rework of the reports was basically reassigned to some other priority work, so we have to wait for him to become free to continue. I don't know when this will be, perhaps August when we're back at full strength from the summer holidays.

  • Hi Jessica,

any update? This is super important feature we need.

  • This is one of the most important functions for SEMrush, why is it paused?! Please fix problems as soon as possible. This way it is useless!

  • Hi All,

So we have done some investigation on the reported issues of SEMRush Projects, and have found that most "problems" are actually due to the fact their API does not match their UI. Not that there's a problem with the connector per se, but that it does not meet expectations due to this mismatch in behavior.

Some fields you can see in the UI simply aren't available or that they have a similar name but report totally different data. So this makes it both difficult to make a report that matches the UI and to verify discrepancies.

So in light of this, we want to try to figure out where the actual bugs and feature gaps are, as well as what are API limitations preventing users from getting the report they expect. If you have had issues with the current version of the SEMRush Projects connector, please submit a private ticket with the following details:

    https://support.supermetrics.com/support/tickets/new

-Link to the report with the issue

    -Describe what fields are missing/wrong

-Screenshot of the data from SEMRush Projects UI showing what the values should be

From these we will find out if it's a API limitation, a bug, or a missing feature and act accordingly.

We're sorry for the problems and delays with this beta connector, we're hoping we can fix what we can and document what is not possible to make this easier to use properly.
