How to store queries and create query groups

This article will show you how to store queries you have built, and make them into query groups for logical classifying.


Before you begin

You should have a good idea on what a query is: a recipe for a certain combination of metrics divided by dimensions, for a specific time range, possibly filtered. These articles will help you more than enough:

Using the Query Manager

A query is more general than the results from a certain query, so it makes sense to save and reuse queries. Query manager enables that easily.

Saving a query

So you have created a query, gotten the results, and you want to use the similar query later. We showed you previously how you can have the query in URL form, full length or shortened. Query manager can save it in a query group and keep it for you for whenever you're logged into . Here's how:

1. Choose Save

(Save as allows you to force saving as a new query instead, but it's similar:)

2. Fill in the fields of our saving pop-up:

- Give the query a name you will remember it by

- If you don't yet have a query group ("schema") created, give one a new name in "Create new schema" field

  - If you already have multiple query groups save it to the one that makes most sense

  - (Query groups with API don't allow running multiple queries at once. These are for classification purposes only)

- Preview your query details under Metrics and dimensions, going back to make any corrections if needed

- Save by choosing OK

3. A confirmation pop-up is supposed to tell you of the success. It's displayed for a short time only though.

What's next?

You can log out of our team site for the time being. The next time you want it, you can log back in and you'll find the saved query by the name you chose:

When you navigate these five steps, it will load the query settings from your query group's saved query, and open up the Query tab on the left. You'll be ready to run the query at once.

Note that the visible query groups (named "schemas" for now) are dependent on the selected data source, so if you use another one in between your query group will look like having vanished. Selecting the data source you created it for solves this.

Editing or deleting a query

There's a three dot icon next to the saved query's name that reveals more options: edit, rename and delete.

The edit option takes you back to the query tab, where you can make any modifications you need, and finally save your changes again with the save button:

We offer you similar options for your custom query groups, although "editing" them only offers renaming:

The ready-made standard query groups cannot be edited or deleted.
