How to Authenticate/Re-authenticate Tumblr Public Data in Google Sheets, Google Data Studio & Microsoft Excel

This guide gives instructions on how to authenticate Tumblr Public Data with Google Sheets, Google Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel.

"If everything fails..." 

Data Source Access Requirements:

Tumblr Public Data allows you to collect publicly available data about Tumblr posts and blogs. It does not require to log in to a specific account. Therefore, no access requirements are required for this data source.


Authenticating with Google Sheets:

To authenticate Tumblr Public Data in Google Sheets, please do the following steps:

1. Open up the Supermetrics sidebar in your Google Sheets.

2. Select Tumblr Public Data in the sidebar, under data source.


3. Select query type.


Tumblr blog data gets metadata for blog based on a given username.

Tumblr posts gets post details based on a keyword (or tag).


4. 

- Search posts by tag/s. To select multiple tags, please separate them with commas or new lines. 

- Search blogs by username/s. To select multiple usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines. 

As additional filters, you can:

- Translate data into one specific language.

- Choose the number of rows per item.

You have completed all the authentication steps.


Re-authenticating with Google Sheets:

Authenticating with Data Studio:

To authenticate Tumblr Public Data in Google Data Studio, please do the following steps:

1. Click on add data.

2. Search for Tumblr by Supermetrics and click on it.

3. Select query type and click on next.

- Search posts by tag/s. To select multiple tags, please separate them with commas or new lines. 

- Search blogs by username/s. To select multiple usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines.

5. Click on add on the bottom right side to continue.

6. As a final step, click on add to report.

1. Click on data and open up the Supermetrics sidebar in Excel.

2. Select Tumblr Public Data in the sidebar under data source.

3. An automatic popup will open up, click on start.

4. Select query type.

Tumblr posts gets post details based on a keyword (or tag).

- Search posts by tag/s. To select multiple tags, please separate them with commas or new lines. To fetch posts data, you will need to select the number of posts per tag. 

- Search blogs by username/s. To select multiple usernames, please separate them with commas or new lines.


You have completed all the authentication steps.

Common errors:

If you encounter any of the following errors below, please see the guide linked after the error message.

  • Error: "Authentication failed" & "You need to re-authenticate at X and then run the query again.", please see this guide
  • Error: "You're not allowed to run queries with this license #12345. This is because you have not been assigned to the license as a valid user." please see this guide.
